Dr. Stephanie Orme is an Assistant Professor of Communication and Media Studies at Emmanuel College in Boston. Her teaching and research focuses on digital media culture, with an emphasis on video games, esports, and streaming. She is an inaugural Board Member of the Esports Research Network, an international collaborative of esports researchers and industry partners and co-hosts the ERN's podcast "The Esports Research Report." She is a frequent speaker on topics related to gaming and esports curriculum development at the collegiate level.
Her research examines the global digital gaming industry’s and gaming culture as they intersect with gender, race, sexuality, class, and disability. She is interested in topics such as "gamer" identity, digital labor, and streaming and esports. She is the current Outgoing Chair of the Game Studies Division for the National Communication Association, an inaugural Board Member for the international Esports Research Network, a regular speaker at events such as PAXEast and BostonFIG conferences, and an active member of the Boston game development community.
